Canada to meet Finland in World Junior quarterfinals

Team Canada will have to take an extra step if they are to be successful in their bid for a fourth straight World Junior Championship.

Canada finished the preliminary segment of the tournament with a 4-1 win over Denmark on Monday and will face Finland in a quarter final matchup on Wednesday. The winner will face the U.S.A. in the semi-finals on Friday.

It is the first time that Canada has played in a quarter final game at the World Juniors since 2002 when they beat Sweden and went on to win the silver medal.

On Monday, Shawn Matthias of the Belleville Bulls and John Tavares of the Oshawa Generals each had a goal and an assist to help Canada to a 4-1 win over Denmark.

Kyle Turris scored two goals and Steve Mason of the London Knights made 15 saves in the win.

Mikkel Boedker of the Kitchener Rangers scored midway through the third period on a two-man advantage for Denmark.

Sweden skated to a 4-2 win over the Czech Republic to finish the preliminary round with a 4-0-0 record and first place in the Pool A. They will face the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal game between Russia and the Czech Republic.
