Brett Thompson could be the newest member of the Sudbury Wolves.

The local product and member of the Central Canadian champion Soo North Stars was taken in the fourth round of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection draft on Saturday morning at 72nd overall.

The draft is continuing throughout the day and is being conducted via the Internet.

Thompson could be looking at a chance to crack the lineup of a Wolves team that features fellow local product Matt Dias and are currently fighting the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL championship series.

The 5-foot-9, 145 pound centre scored 30 goals and 31 assists in 36 Great North Midget League regular season games with the North Stars. In the playoffs, Thompson tallied eight times and added 15 assists in just nine games.

Thompson and the North Stars got further exposure as they advanced to the Telus Cup Central Regional Championships in Waterloo where they won gold to advance to the Telus Cup national championship.

In eight games at the regionals, Thompson scored six times and set up two others. Thompson was held pointless at the nationals, although the team was held to just five goals in total in five games.

Thompson will try to follow in the footsteps of his father Billy, who tended goal for the Soo Greyhounds during their first two seasons in the OHL beginning in 1972-73.
