Blind River edges Echo Bay in CASS tourney final

Blind River Public School defeated the Echo Bay Eagles 32-28 in double overtime to win the 9th annual CASS Elementary Girls Basketball Tournament. The score was 12-6 for Echo Bay at the half.

Blind River Public School defeated the Echo Bay Eagles 32-28 in double overtime to win the 9th annual CASS Elementary Girls Basketball Tournament.

The score was 12-6 for Echo Bay at the half. Ovina Chow lead all scorers with 14 points for Blind River while Krista Boyer chipped in with 8. Sarah Cooper with 9 points and Kaisha King with 8 led Echo Bay.

In the semi-finals, Blind River defeated Grandview P.S. of Sault Ste. Marie 21-14 in a hard fought game. The game was tied at 11-11 after the third quarter. Ovina Chow had 12 points for Blind River while Liza Ritchie had 11 for the Grandview Hawks.

In the other semi-final game, Echo Bay defeated Johnson P.S. 16-7. Kaisha King lead the Eagles with 6 points while Alexis Lajambe had 3 for the Johnson Jaguars.

Other schools participating were the Laird Lions, St. Joseph Island Stingers, Thessalon Thunder and Arthur Henderson Hawks.

The 9th annual boys tournament will be April 20-21 with teams from Elliot Lake (Esten Park), Iron Bridge, Thessalon, Bruce Mines, Desbarats, Laird, Echo Bay and St. Joseph Island.
