Tyler Binkley became just the second local athlete to be selected in the Major League Baseball entry draft.

The lanky fire-ball pitcher was taken in the 40th round, 1,204th overall by the New York Mets from the Cambrian Mazda Midget Black Sox in the 2006 draft conducted Tuesday and Wednesday via the Internet.

Last season, Binkley, who is also a top basketball player for the St. Mary's Knights, was a member of Team Ontario, which won the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

In 1999, the Toronto Blue Jays scooped up power hitter and former Black Sox Aaron Fera in 32nd round.
