It wasn't the prettiest win ever recorded but the Sault Steelers made enough big plays to get the job done.

Without starting quarterback Travis McLean, who is nursing a rib injury, Kyle Gauthier filled in and put up enough points offensively for an 18-10 victory over the Milton Marauders on Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The Steelers improve to 3-1 on the Northern Football Conference season and will enjoy a bye next week.

On their first offensive play, Gauthier hit receiver Matt Premo for a 77 yard catch and run touchdown and an early 6-0 lead after a missed convert.

Milton gained the lead in the second quarter on a Chad Kennedy two yard touchdown run and a 12 yard field goal by John D'Ovidio.

But the Steelers responded late in the half as Ron Kelly hauled in a 29 yard pass for a touchdown and a 12-7 lead.

Josh Gauthier capped the scoring with a three yard touchdown run with 1:51 remaining in the game.

With the Marauders driving for the tie in the final minute, Kelly picked off a pass in the end zone to ensure the Steelers win.

Kurt Morrison turned in a solid game defensively and snuffed out two Milton drives with timely interceptions. Brandon Lewis and Toby Traveson recovered Milton fumbles.

The Steelers return to action on July 8 in North Bay against the Bulldogs. Next home action for the locals is July 15 against the Sudbury Spartans.

Further details will be added later.
