Belle A ringette team fairs well at opening tournament

The Sault Ringette Belle A Team came home with a good tournament outing over the weekend at the Mitchell A Tournament. The locals opened the tournament with a 9-8 win over Timmins.

The Sault Ringette Belle A Team came home with a good tournament outing over the weekend at the Mitchell A Tournament.

The locals opened the tournament with a 9-8 win over Timmins. Ashley Clingen scored three goals and an assist while Danyka Gagnon also notched a hat trick. Carly Fraser and Brooke Hope each scored once and set up another while Josee Diotte scored once. Sarah Crispell recorded three assists and Chelsea Clingen two.

The Sault then lit up the scoreboard in a 9-3 decision over Stratford. Hope scored three times and added two assists while Gagnon also potted three goals. Crispell scored once and set up a pair, Ashley Clingen added a goal and a helper while Alex Crawford rounded out the scoring.

In their final contest, the locals fell 6-0 to Pickering.

Dana Desaulnier tended goal in all three games for the Sault.

The team, featuring 15-17 year-old players, will continue to work throughout the season in preparation for the Provincial Championship Tournament, which will be held in the Sault from March 23-26.

Four players from Sudbury, in Gagnon, Hope, Diotte and Kerry Doucette, help make up the Sault representatives. The team’s coaching staff is made up of Dave Clingen, Sue Clingen and Steve Summers.
