BLIND RIVER – The Blind River Beavers scored three unanswered goals in the back end of the third period including a pair of empty netters as they defeated the Soo Thunderbirds 5-2 at the Blind River Community Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers got on the board first when Matthew Campanella beat Thunderbirds netminder Kolton Bourret only 47 seconds in for a 1-0 Beavers lead as Campanella buried a rebound off a shot from Evan Fraccaro.

The Thunderbirds evened the score as Quinn Myles blasted a slap shot from the top of the circle that beat Beavers netminder Noah Tegelaar at 15:54 of the first to make it 1-1.

The Beavers responded as Benjamin Armatage intercepted a pass and walked into the slot and beat Bourret low for a 2-1 Beavers advantage at 16:36.

The Thunderbirds got an equalizer early in the second, as Jonathan Sonedecker fed Daniel Beaupre on the power play and he rifled a shot from the right circle past the Beavers goalie at 1:20 to make it 2-2.

The Beavers took the lead again on a logjam in front of the Thunderbirds net as Cameron Menard put home a rebound during the scramble which gave the homeside a 3-2 lead at 12:51 of the third period.

Jacob Kovacs and Adam Prax each added long empty net tallies to firm up the victory for the Beavers.

The win improves the Beavers record to 32-9 while the Thunderbirds drop to 23-12-2-1.
