Bantam Titans capture silver in Hamilton

Last weekend, the Sault Titans Olympus Bantam Boys Basketball team competed in the Blessed Sacrament Invitational Basketball tournament in Hamilton, Ontario.

The boys finished with a 2-3 record earning a silver medal in the "B" division.

In game one, the Titans were defeated 38-34 by the Sarnia Valhalla Vikings. Richard Anderson and Mitchell Mazzuca had 6 and 5 points respectively.

Game two saw the Titans fall 46-34 to the St. Catherines CYO Rebels. Cole Bertolissi and Richard Anderson combined for 15 points in a losing effort.

In the third game, the Titans regrouped and came out victorious. Richard Anderson pumped in 20 points in the 49-45 victory over the Guelph CYO Knights.

The Titans advanced to the semi-finals in group "B". In game 4, the Titans came away with the victory defeating the Etobicoke Thunder 36-32. Eight players from the squad of 11 contributed points in this game.

Sunday afternoon's gold medal match brought the Titans up against a talented Newmarket York Avengers. Quickly, the Avengers went up 14-0. After a series of timeouts coach Louie Mazzuca rallied his team to an exciting comeback.

Through hard work and determination the Titans came back to take a one point lead. The boys could not hold on long enough losing 50-47. Marlin Imasogie scored 12 points.

Along with Imasogie, Anderson, Bertolissi, and Mazzuca, the rest of the contributors consists of Justin Bertolissi, Anthony Bruni, Trent Pozzebon, Anthony Iacoe, Michel Weldon, Anthony Foggia and Kyle Genoe.

Next action will be the Ontario Basketball Association Chambionships in Scarborough, Ontario. It takes place April 20th to the 22nd.
