Bantam Hounds unbeaten in opening weekend

The Soo Bantam Greyhounds returned home from the Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League regular season opening showcase with an unbeaten record. In four games over three days in North Bay, the Hounds won two games and tied two others.

The Soo Bantam Greyhounds returned home from the Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League regular season opening showcase with an unbeaten record.

In four games over three days in North Bay, the Hounds won two games and tied two others.

To open the season, the Greyhounds played to a 3-3 tie with the Sudbury Wolves as Greg Sartoretto, Jarrett Krancevich and Tyler Pearse scored for the Soo while Chris Buonomo added a pair of assists.

In their second game, the Greyhounds whipped the Timmins Rangers 9-3. Sartoretto, Nicholas Romano and Brian Nanne scored two goals each with singles going to Michael Schug, Pearse and David Quesnele. Buonomo recorded three assists with Romano, Jeff Llyod and Pearse setting up two goals each.

Sartoretto found the net for the third consecutive game as his three goal effort paced the locals to a 5-2 win over the Onaping Falls Huskies. Pearse and Brandon Warmington also scored while Brett Findlay chipped in three assists. Remo Febbraro picked up the win in goal.

In the fourth and final game of the weekend, the Soo played to a 3-3 tie with the North Bay Hilltop Variety Blades. Quesnele scored twice while Romano scored once and assisted on another.

With six points, the Greyhounds sit in second place with a big early season series against Sudbury scheduled for next weekend in the Nickel City. The league leading Wolves went 3-0-1 for seven points over the weekend.

The teams will suit up for two games on Saturday and another on Sunday.
