Bantam Black Sox back on winning note

The Elks 341 Black Sox got back on a winning note after dropping their semi-final game in the Sports Gold Invitational tournament over the weekend.

Just hours after the Cambrian Nissan Black Sox defeated the EUP Travelers in Sault, Michigan, the Bantam Black Sox defeated their bantam counterparts from the Michigan Sault by an 11-3 score.

“We played a very good game tonight, both offensively and defensively,” said Black sox coach Chris Walls. “The kids showed a lot of discipline on the bases. It’s a nice tuneup for the weekend.”

D.J. Carter had a solid night at the plate with three singles and a walk, while Rich Lang had a triple, single and stole three bases. Scott Thornton added a pair of singles in the victory.

The Black Sox also got a solid defensive effort on Tuesday night which was something that was lacking at times over the weekend.

“”We tightened the strings tonight,” Walls said. “Everybody seemed to respond well. We moved guys in and out to different positions and they seemed to respond well.”

The Black Sox face Rudyard on Wednesday night at Sinclair field on Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. start before traveling to Mancelona, Michigan for a tournament this weekend.
