AUC, Sault College return from road trip

The Sault College Cougars men's basketball team continues to roll in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA).

The Cougars returned home on Saturday after scoring a pair of road wins to improve to 4-0 in the west division and maintain a hold on first place.

On Friday, the Cougars used 21 points from Jean Louis Ouattara in a 68-58 win over Lambton. Sean Seivwright added 18 points, Nathan Whalen 11 and Brady Bolan nine.

On Saturday, the Cougars squeaked past St. Clair 76-72 on the strength of 23 points from Ouattara. Seivwright added 16 points, Jeff Rennison 11 and Bolan nine.

The Cougars hit the road again next weekend for games at Niagara next Friday night and Redeemer next Saturday afternoon.

*** VOLLEYBALL:

The Sault College Cougars women's volleyball team split a pair of games in Sarnia and Windsor.

On Saturday, the Cougars won a tough five-set match 3-2 over St. Clair. Ashley Whitmell led the Cougars with 21 offensive points while Ashley Browning added 11.

Sault College opened the trip with a 3-0 loss to Lambton. Browning led Sault College with 12 points and Whitmell added 10.

The Cougars, who have a record of 1-3, join the men's basketball team next week for games at Niagara and Redeemer.

*** ALGOMA UNIVERSITY:

The Algoma University College Thunderbirds men's basketball squad dropped a pair of games over the weekend.

On Friday, the Thunderbirds fell 94-70 to St. Clair before dropping an 87-59 decision to Lambton. The team's record stands at 1-2.

The women's hoopsters were handed an 80-24 loss by St. Clair on Friday to fall to 1-2.

Both teams return to action next weekend on the road with games at Redeemer on Friday night and Niagara on Saturday afternoon.
