AUC edged by all-stars in gold medal game

************************* Results of the Algoma University College Basketball Tournament The six team tournament was held at the George Leach Centre, Algoma University College this past weekend. In the Bronze Medal game, Fleming College Knights defeated the Traverse City Defenders by a score of 94 to 64. Top scorers for Fleming were Jovain Wilson with 18 points and Zeljko Vinkovich with 17. Top scorer for Traverse City was David Manchester with 14. In the Silver Medal game, Eldon Academy defeated the Thunderbay Wild by a score of 105 to 89. Top scorers for Eldon Academy were Paul Scotland with 26 and Mile Ivanic with 14. Top scorer for Thunderbay was Steve Zapior with 27. In the Gold Medal game, the US All-Stars defeated Algoma University College Thunderbirds by a score of 87 to 76. Top scorer for the All-Stars were Chad Pleiness with 35 points and John Flynn with 16. Top scorers for Algoma U were Lloyd Coke with 15 points and Vyron Phillips with 14. Both the Algoma University College Men's and Women' s Basketball teams have their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season home opening games on Saturday, October 20th against the Mohawk College Mountaineers at the George Leach Centre. The women's game is at noon and the men's game is at 2 pm.
