Atom Spartans earn playoff berth at Oktoberfest tourney

The SIS/Hydraulic Solution “AA” Spartans earned some valuable experience at the 25-team Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest tournament over the weekend.

The Spartans went 3-0 in the round robin earning a quarterfinal berth against the Oshawa Minor Generals. Despite out shooting Oshawa 17-10 the Spartans fell 2-0 to the Generals.

Friday morning, the SIS/Hydraulic Solution “AA” Spartans defeated the Richmond Hill Stars 2-1 in the opening game of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest tournament Friday morning. Josh Dose and Matt Caruso each had a goal and an assist to provide the Spartans scoring.

Friday afternoon saw the SIS/Hydraulic Solutions “AA” Atom Spartans continue their winning ways with a 4-0 win over the York Toros. Jacob Palmerio led the way with a 3-point effort scoring once and assisting on both Kirk Garson goals. Erik Paradis scored the other Spartan goal. Earning single assists were Dallas Jollineau, Mitchel Robinson, and Trent Sepkowski. Michael Chilelli was outstanding in net earning the shut out on a 15 save performance.

Saturday morning in their third game, the Spartans defeated the Oakville Rangers 3-1. Kirk Garson and Jacob Palmerio each had a goal and an assist. Carter Lobert had the other Soo goal. Earning single assists were Josh Dose, Frankie Pucci, Bryce Campbell and Brett D’Orazio. Mario Culina earned the victory stopping 12 of 13 shots.

Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal match, Michael Chilelli was strong between the pipes however the Spartans could not find the back of the Oshawa Minor Generals net.

The Spartans now play a league game this week before playing in their home Challenge Cup tournament Oct 26-28.
