Atom Hounds capture Silver Stick

The SIS/Hydraulic Solutions “AA” Atom Greyhounds won the Sudbury Silver Stick Tournament over the weekend. The Greyhounds finished the round robin portion of the tournament with 2 wins, a loss and a tie.

The SIS/Hydraulic Solutions “AA” Atom Greyhounds won the Sudbury Silver Stick Tournament over the weekend. The Greyhounds finished the round robin portion of the tournament with 2 wins, a loss and a tie. After beating Copper Cliff 4-0 and tying Toronto’ s TNT Tornados 2-2 on Friday, the Atom Hounds lost 4-1 to the Valley East Rebels and then defeated the York Toros 3-0 on Saturday.

In the Copper Cliff game, Kirk Garson, the Soo’s Game MVP, had two goals and an assist. Single goals went to Erik Paradis and Dallas Jollineau. Earning assists were Owen Headrick, Trent Sepkowski, Mitchell Robinson and Carter Lobert. Mario Culina earned the shut out.

Against Toronto, scoring for the Hounds were Paradis and game MVP Frankie Pucci. Assists went to Brett D’Orazio, Bryce Campbell and Jacob Palmerio. Michael Chilelli was earned the tie in net. In the Valley East game, Frankie Pucci scored the lone goal with assists going to game MVP Mitchell Robinson and Marcus Sacchetta. Mario Culina was in net for the loss.

Against York, Dallas Jollineau, Jacob Palmerio and Matthew Caruso each tallied for the Hounds. Game MVP Owen Headrick, Frankie Pucci, Bryce Campbell and Erik Paradis each earned single assists.

In the semi-finals, the Atom Hounds got off to a slow start allowing 3 Sudbury Bulldog goals in the first two minutes. Their relentless work ethic saw them battle back from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to tie the game with two third period goals and send the match into overtime. Matthew Caruso scored the overtime winner on an unassisted effort.

Caruso finished the game with two goals and an assist. Bryce Campbell, Owen Headrick and tournament MVP Dallas Jollineau scored the other Hound goals. Assists went to Kirk Garson, Marcus Sacchetta, Erik Paradis, Noah Sartoretto and Frankie Pucci. Michael Chilelli got the victory in relieve of Mario Culina.

In the finals, the SIS/Hydraulic Solutions “AA” Atom Greyhounds faced the Newmarket Redmen, who are coached by Sault native Todd Sepkowski, and defeated them 3-2.

Bryce Campbell had a goal and an assist. Jacob Palmerio and Jollineau had the other Soo goals. Pucci contributed with 2 assists. Garson and Josh Dose had single helpers. Michael Chilelli was strong in net stopping 9 of 11 shots he faced for the win.

The SIS/Hydraulic Solutions Greyhounds will now travel to Sarnia in January for the International Silver Stick Championships.
