Arcangeletti, Jennings honoured with Hall inductions

Harvey Arcangeletti and Art Jennings became just the 19th and 20th members of the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame. On Thursday night at the Civic Centre, both mem were inducted into the Hall during a special ceremony.

Harvey Arcangeletti and Art Jennings became just the 19th and 20th members of the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame.

On Thursday night at the Civic Centre, both mem were inducted into the Hall during a special ceremony.

"It's a great honour to be in the Sports Hall of Fame," said Arcangeletti, who is pictured on the left. "I have to thank my parents and family for all of their support and I will cherish this for the rest of my life."

Despite slowing down on a competitive level, Arcangeletti remains a familiar face in the local sporting scene.

"I'm truly honoured to be inducted into the prestigeous Sports Hall of Fame," said Jennings, who also thanked his family for years of support and participation. "I would like to thank the city of Sault Ste. Marie for allowing me the opportunity to coach and providing the facilities for the athletes to use."

Jennings is highly respected for his tireless fundraising efforts to provide local youths the opportunity to participate in sports for little to no cost.

The Sports Hall of Fame is located inside the John Rhodes Community Centre in the second floor lobby. Athletes, coaches and builders who have attained local, provincial, national and international recognition for their acheivements will be honoured.

Accomplishments:

* Recognized for athleticism in track & field, floor hockey, baseball, swimming and ice hockey * Canadian and Ontario Special Olympic Athlete of the Year * National and International track & field Special Olympian * Multiple Special Olympic Gold Medal winner from 1994 to 2005 * 1996 - Ontario All-Round Athlete of the Year.

* 1968 - George Wallace Trophy winner * 1975 - Founding member of the Sault Speed Skating Club and president for 25 years, coach for 32 Years * 1985 - City of Sault Ste. Marie Medal of Merit award * 1987 & 1997 - Ontario Speed Skating Association Award of Excellence * 2000 - Dedication of “The Art Jennings Speed Skating Oval” * Coached S.S.M. athletes to Olympics, World Championships, and world competitions
