Algonquin College - OCAA Women’s Basketball Championships

Thursday March 1, 2007 Day 1 Results:

Game 1 St. Clair Saints 64 Seneca Sting 72

The #1 team in the East Region opened the 2006-07 OCAA Women’s Basketball Championships with a victory. Seneca College Sting defeated St. Clair College Saints 72-64. Heather Elchuck and Natasha Thombs both marked the score sheet with 16 points to lead the Sting while Stephanie Chau chipped in 11. Leading scorer for St. Clair was Elisa Ruhl with 16 points and 9 assists.

Game 2 St. Lawrence Vikings 80 Sheridan Bruins 68

In the first upset of the weekend, the 3rd place St. Lawrence Vikings from the East Region defeat the 2nd place Sheridan Bruins 80-68. Bailey Lomas lead the Viking attack with 22 points and 2 assist while Britt Pegg added 20. Caity Wright had a game high 26 points in the loss for Sheridan.

Game 3 Humber Hawks 47 Algoma Thunderbirds 50

The Algoma Thunderbirds who finished in 1st place in the West Region held off the strong play of the Humber Hawks to win their quarter-final 50-47. Humber took the lead into halftime 28-20. Algoma adjust in the second half, out-scored Humber 30-19. Danielle D’Ettorre led the Thunderbirds with 13 points, while Lara Stilin and Jessica King both netted 10. Monique Faulknor was the top scorer for Humber with 13 points.

Game 4 Fanshawe Falcons 45 Algonquin Thunder 61

In the final game of the day, the Algonquin Thunder steamed pass the Fanshawe Falcons 61-45. Sara Maybee lit up the scoreboard with 29 points to power the Thunder followed by Jenny Allen with 10 points. Taylor Knipe had 21 points in the loss for Fanshawe.
