Algoma sweeps OCAA home openers

*********************** Algoma U Wins Regular Season Home Openers The Algoma University College Thunderbird women's and men's basketball teams played host to the Mohawk College Mountaineer basketball teams Saturday afternoon.

In the first game between the women's teams, the Algoma University College Thunderbirds came out the winner with a score of 55 to 38. Top scorers for the Thunderbirds were Lara Stilin with 16 points, Kristy Aloe with 14 and Miranda Chaimbrone with 11. For the Mountaineers Lisa Marie Iavarone had 11 points and Lisa Arndt had 6.

In the men's game, the Thunderbirds defeated Mohawk College 87 to 63. Top scorers for Algoma were Vyron Phillips with 28 points, Patrick Murray with 20 and Andrew Turgeon with 16. Top scorers for Mohawk were Marko Gracic with 22 points and Alen Beader with 18.

The women's team is in action next weekend when they play the St. Clair College Saints on the road next Friday night at 6 p.m. The men's team also plays St. Clair College on the road next Friday at 8 pm along with Lambton College Lions in Sarnia on Saturday at 1 pm. ***********************************************************
