The Algoma University varsity basketball teams capped off their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association seasons on Saturday afternoon with games against the Fanshawe Falcons.

In the first game of the day, the Algoma Women had a tough day from the field and it reflected as they dropped a 70-44 decision to Fanshawe.

Algoma kept the game close early on, but Fanshawe pulled ahead near the midway point of the first half and found themselves holding a 36-17 lead at half-time.

Melissa Stumpo, who was the hero a week earlier in the Algoma Women's victory over Niagara, led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Roberta Reid chipped in with 10 points while Jen Cronin and Amy Houser each added six points in the loss.

Fanshawe saw their offense spread around as every player managed to record at least two points. Katie Havekes led the way with 11 points while Jami-Lynn Nantais added 10 points.

In the Men's game, Algoma scored eight of the game's first 11 points but an 18-8 run by Fanshawe to end the first half sent the game into the second half with the Falcons holding a 36-27 edge. Fanshawe added to the lead in the second and capped off an 82- 58 victory over the Algoma Men.

Jarrett Sanders led Algoma with 13 points. Cory Glastier chipped in with 10 while Jason Trinier and Stefon Wilson each added nine points.

Pat Sewell led all scorers with 27 points for Fanshawe while James Falconer added 20 points. Josh Braby chipped in with 11 points in the victory.

The losses marked the final games of the season for both of Algoma's Varsity basketball teams. The Men's team finished the season with a 1-11 record while the Women's team finished the season at 2-8.
