The Algoma District School Board has just completed their inter-school sports championships in girls' basketball and boys' volleyball.
In the girls' basketball 'A' division playoffs, Northern Heights took the championship with a one point victory over Grand View. Members of the victorious team coached by Shari Hunt are Chastity Barkley, Helen Baxter, Alyssa Beck, Kayla Benoit, Meghann Dobbin, Alex Grexton, Jessica Grisdale, Samantha Hunt, Melanie Oben, Alanna Rochetta, and Natalie Yuen.
In 'B' division play, Mountain View won over Parkland by a 31-21 score. The Mountain View team included coach Dave MacGillivray, Bailey Skagen, Britt Dickinson, Ashleigh Bodin, Robbie-Lee Martson, Taylor Ash, Olivia Gingras, Katie Martin, Kayla Consack, Raili Martson, Alana Palahnuk, Chelley Charbonneau and Riley Roth.
In boys' volleyball action, the 'A' division tournament had Greenwood, William Merrifield, River View, Anna McCrea and Pinewood vying for the championship. After round robin play Pinewood defeated Anna McCrea to emerge the winners.
Members of the Pinewood team coached by Stephanie Vaillancourt, Janie Krivan and Vanessa Gastaldo are Travis Burmaster, Sam Campana, Curtis Conneybeare, Zack Evans, Justin Felix, Nathan Heimonen, Ben Katajamaki, Bradley Pawson, Trevor Plumley and Brandon Rendell.
In the 'B' division tournament, five schools also participated in R.M. Moore, Rosedale 1, Grand View, Rosedale 2 and Northern Heights. The eventual winner of this tournament claiming the championship was the Rosedale 1 team coached by Jason Kennedy.
Team members include Patrick Turcotte, Ken Kalinowski, Brandon Howard, Tim Birkenbosch, Adam Siguain and Stephen Erickson.
