Jerry Artuso was at his best on Thursday night and made a little history at Laird International Raceway.

The local racing veteran put in double duty as he raced in both the Modified and Late Model Divisions and in doing so, won both features. By way of winning the features, Artsuo became the first racer in Laird history to win two feature races, in two divisions, on the same night.

Artuso started the night by winning the fast car dash over Rod Bolduc, Paul Seabrook and Charlie Robert. After Rick Leonard went on to win both heat races, the second of which saw track owner Donnie Varcoe sent to the back for spinning Leonard, Artuso held off Leonard and Michael Gold for the feature.

Gold found himself racing in a new car this week after parting ways with L and L racing earlier in the week.

Chris Jones had an extremely successful night in the factory stock division. Jones edged out David Slingsby and John Hamilton in the first heat race before beating out Chuck Fawcett and Dick Wellwood in the second. Wellwood and Fawcett would finish in second and third respectively in the feature as Hamilton won the feature race.

Dennis Uhlman, the son of Sault Ste. Marie racing legend Mike Uhlman, made his first appearance at LIR in the Modified Division and finished a respectable third in the first heat race. Car troubles kept him out of action for the rest of the night following the heat.

Nick Jobst opened the night well by winning both divisional heat races but ran into trouble, literally, in the feature. Jobst was part of a crash that saw his car run into the sand piles set up heading into turn three, ending his night. Scott Syrette was also part of the crash as he also hit the sand piles. Both drives escaped the crash without injury. Artuso went on to hold off defending Modified champion Jordan Sims and Rick Ellis to earn the feature win.

An early crash in heat one of the Stock four division saw Jason Herrington and Cody MacLean be forced to put an early end to their first heat race, but the action was tight nonetheless.

Young Donny Meargart won both heat races, holding off the likes of Mike Baraluk, Brad Bibeau and Brandon Penno. Harrington returned to capture the feature race over Baraluk and Dave King. The heat one crash forced MacLean to put his car up on the trailer for the night.
