62 medals and 2 awards for locals gymnasts

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Gymnastics club competed in the Sunshine Classic on June 1st to 3rd in North Bay, returning with 62 medals. First up were the boys on Friday Night.

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Gymnastics club competed in the Sunshine Classic on June 1st to 3rd in North Bay, returning with 62 medals.

First up were the boys on Friday Night. Matthew DiGasparro competed in the Interclub A Age 12+ category with 1st place finishes on both the floor and mushroom. Matthew also placed second on vault and 3rd on rings and parallel bars with a 2nd place overall.

Nathan Reid competed in the Interclub A age 10/11 category with 2nd place finished on the mushroom and vault. Nathan also placed 3rd on floor, rings, parallel bars, high bar and 3rd overall.

Both Mark Higgs and Matthew Boston competed in the Interclub B, age 10/11 category. Mark placed 2nd on the mushroom and high bar, 3rd on rings and 4th overall. Matthew placed 4th on floor and rings with a 6th place overall.

The youngest member of the boy’s artistic team, Justin Finateri, competed in the Showcase category. In showcase the competitiors receive a certificate from the judges with positive comments about their performances. Justin received positive comments that reflected his strength and flexibility.

Starting off the weekend for the girls was Kaylee Raynor who competed in the Level 5, age 11 category. Kaylee placed 1st on beam and floor, 3rd on vault and 3rd overall.

Next up, Brooklyn Wilkins competed in the Level 5, age 14+ category. Brooklyn placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on both bars and beam and a 3rd overall.

In the same flight Amanda Dawson competed in the Level 5 age 12 category. Amanda placed 2nd on beam and floor, 3rd on bars and 3rd overall.

Last flight of the day Taylor Felix, Alison Reive and Lauren Malaska competed in the level 4 age 11 category. Taylor placed 3rd on vault, 5th on beam and 7th overall. Alison placed 4th on floor, 5th on vault and 6th overall. Lauren placed 1st on floor, 6th on bars and 8th overall.

Also in the same flight, teammate Reilly Turbide competed in the level 4 age 10 category. Reilly placed 1st on vault, 3rd on bars, beam and floor and 2nd overall.

First thing Sunday morning it was the youngest members of the Women’s Artistic team, who competed in the Level 2 age 7/8 category. Members included Melina Talentino, Taryn Lamorie, Jaurdyn Clement, Nicole Heintzman, Shelby Speck, Brenna James, Kaitlyn Lambert- Mousseau, Alicia Sharpe and Jordan Stebbleton. In the age 7/8 categories the girls are awarded based score ranges. The girls can receive a Gold, Silver or bronze based on were their score falls. Here are their results:

Next Jenna Holt, Megan Marotta and Jamie Ball competed in the Level 2, age 10 category. Jenna placed 1st on vault, 6th on floor and 8th overall. Megan placed 4th on bars and 7th overall. Jamie placed 2nd on bars and beam, 4th on vault and floor and 3rd overall.

Competing in the same flight were Jordyn Hamilton, Amanda Nevin, Alison Cavanagh and Christina Mammarella, who competed in the Level 2 age 12+ category. Jordyn placed 2nd on vault and floor, 4th on beam and 2nd overall. Alison placed 3rd on floor, 4th on bars and 4th overall. Amanda placed 2nd on bars, 3rd on beam and floor and 3rd overall. Christina placed 1st on vault and bars, 2nd on beam and floor and 1st overall.

In the last flight of the weekend, Peri Brosemar competed in level 3 age 9. Peri placed 3rd on beam, 6th on floor and 8th overall.

Also in the last flight, both Brittany Gallinger and Sarah Printess competed in the Level 3 age 11 category. Brittany placed 5th on beam, 6th on floor and 10th overall. Sarah placed 1st on vault, 3rd on bars and floor and 4th overall.

In total all members brought home 62 medals and 2 team spirit awards. Congratulations to all competitors!
