3-on-3 Tournament attracts 113 teams and 1,100 players

Annual Charity Hockey Tournament takes Place at the Rhodes, Pee Wee and McMeeken Arenas to Raise Funds for our Local Oncology Unit

The Open Ice 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament organizers are once again thrilled with the response to their 6th Annual tournament.

"This is an exciting and fun weekend for the community of Sault Ste. Marie", commented tournament organizer, Mark Nanne.

While team registrations have levelled off this year, the tournament will host over 1,100 young players between the ages of 6 and 16 enlisted on 113 teams.

Over 275 games are scheduled to take place at the Rhodes, Pee Wee and McMeeken Arenas and the tournament will drop its opening face-offs on the evening of Thursday, April 27th and conclude on Sunday, April 30th.

Teams from all over Northern Ontario will be visiting Sault Ste. Marie, with 39 out-of-town team registrations included in this year's event.

Young players from Hearst, Cochrane, Sudbury and North Bay, are just a sampling of the travellers that will help to raise funds for the Algoma Regional Cancer Program located in the Sault Area Hospitals.

Over the last 5 years, this tournament has contributed $85,000 for local cancer needs. The Spring Tournament is intended to give young players a chance to play the game they love while feeling the satisfaction that comes with contributing to a worthy cause.

An invitation is extended to everyone to come out and enjoy a game or any one of the 17 championship tilts at the Rhodes and Pee Wee Arenas on Sunday afternoon.
