Superior District Library’s NEA Big Read events continue this month at Bayliss Public Library. Four events featuring spooky themes related to the works of Edgar Allan Poe are part of the seasonal fun in the Sault as Halloween approaches.

A tour of Maple Ridge Cemetery will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.

Caroline Grabowski, author and president of the Chippewa County Historical Society, will be the tour leader. She promises a spooky tour. Admission is by a $5 donation.

There will be refreshments, including seasonal coffees provided by Cup of the Day.

Make sure and dress for the weather. You may park in the lot north of the cemetery, across from Neville’s Market on Ashmun Street. The event is co-sponsored with CCHS.

If you would rather work on a craft project on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., you may create a Zombie Barbie in the Children’s Room. Dolls and supplies will be provided.

The event is free.

Tim Ellis and Brad Blair of the Upper Peninsula Paranormal Research Society will present their Haunted Great Lakes program on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.

They will share some of the most famous haunts of the area, along with some of their personal experiences at the locations.

Tim and Brad are veteran paranormal investigators who have been chasing ghosts since they were kids growing up together in the Sault. For more information about the Society, visit www.upprs.org. Friends of Bayliss Library will provide refreshments. The program is free.

Classic Edgar Allan Poe movies will be featured at the Soo Theatre, 534 Ashmun Street, on Saturday, October 29 in the afternoon and evening.

The Raven (1935, with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi) will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tales of Terror (1962, with Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Basil Rathbone) will be shown at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 each.

There will be drawings; save your ticket for a discount at the Soo Brewing Company. The Soo Film Festival is a co-sponsor; call 906-632-1930 for more information.
