Yowza! BeaverTails are coming!

To be sold at Roberta Bondar Park, five or six months a year

Cold weather kept your City Council from approving the piping-hot deal Monday night

Sault Ste. Marie, it appears, is about to get its own BeaverTails franchise.

If all goes according to plan, the crispy-yet-chewy whole-wheat pastries will be available at Roberta Bondar Park starting in May.

A city evaluation committee has chosen Jeff Dicorpo and S. Purvis to operate a restaurant/retail space in the park's waterfront southwest building, previously occupied by the Lock Tour Boat operation and, more recently, by an ice cream concession.

Dicorpo and Purvis are proposing to lease the space for $500 a month for a BeaverTails franchise that would be open from May 1 to as late as October.

The establishment would be open seven days a week from morning through evening.

They're willing to sign a three-year lease.

The sweet deal was to go to City Council Monday for approval, but the meeting was postponed because of the weather.

At time of writing Monday night, no date had been set for the postponed council meeting.
