There's a brand-new beanery opening soon in Searchmont, and owners Nila Randell and Charles Ross are asking for your help to decorate the place.

They're searching for old photographs of Searchmont to spruce up the interior walls of Heart Rocks, their-soon-to-open healthy foods place.

"Our object here at Heart Rocks is to slow things down to an enjoyable blur, starting with the food," Randell says.

"We know what every ingredient is. Is it organic? As organic as possible, yes. Is it homemade? Yes! As scratch as scratch can be."

Heart Rocks will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with breakfast available until 11 a.m. Monday to Friday, until 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The opening date is so far unannounced but will be soon.

Offerings will include:

- Whole wheat scrambled-egg-and-turkey-sausage breakfast wraps and potato frittatas, as well as plain-as-jane bacon and eggs for the hopelessly boring.

- Golaz Slovenian beef soup, black-bean chili with homemade cornbread, and grilled sweet potatoes, green peppers amd onions for lunch.

- Aglio e olio spaghettini in olive oil and garlic, Searchmont fried chicken, bruschetta pasta, pasta Bolognese, burgers, pizza and baked beans as main dishes.

- A children's menu with turnip fries, sweet potato fries, a strange mac & cheese & croutons dish created by a too-imaginative 13-year-old, and chocolate booger cookies (under no circumstances should children be told that the boogers are actually zucchini chunks).

- Desserts including pumpkin spice cake, a chocolate pudding cake that's made while you watch in one minute, a fruit crisp of the day (apple, rhubarb or blueberry) and a no-crust pumpkin pie made with a crunchy walnut crumble.

Also available will be a collection of Nila's unique cotton and wool hand-knit hats, Skein's End scarves, an updated reprint of the kinda-famous 1977 Searchmont Recipe Book, and an organic cotton t-shirt emblazoned with a map of the infamous Searchmont Highway, showing the road snaking across the front, over the shoulder and down the shirt's back with all the local landmark nicknames.

"We will be adding seasonal specials and asking for local participation in the Fall High Bush Cranberry Festival," Randell says on the Heart Rocks website. "We have reached out to local businesses with every effort to use what’s close; patronizing Pearce Farm (pesticide-free produce), Penokean Hills Farms (local beef - no hormones, no antibiotics) and St. Joseph Island Coffee Roasters (fresh, locally roasted fair-trade coffee).

"We even have our own jardin potager - a kitchen garden right at our back door."

In addition to historic photographs, Randell is also looking for contributions of heart-shaped rocks.

She already has an extensive collection, after which Heart Rocks is named.

But if you bring Nila and Charles a heart-shaped rock, they promise to donate a dollar to charity.
