Young chess masters, here's your chance to compete in provincial championship

Qualifying event will take top finishers to the provincial championship in Toronto

Elementary and secondary students in the Algoma district are welcome to compete in the Algoma Regional Chess Challenge Provincial Championships on Thursday, March 28 at the Bushplane Museum. This scholastic chess tournament is the qualifier for the Ontario Chess Challenge Provincial Championship in MIssissauga.

Players must be supervised by a team coach or parent throughout the day.

Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place, and top finishers in each division will be sent to compete in provincial tournament at the Misssisauga Convention Centre on April 14, 2019.

The tournament organization is Swiss Pairings (up to five rounds) to determine overall winners, and touch rule is in effect. It is recommended that players have the ability to deliver checkmate.

The games will begin at 10 a.m., with pre-registration/check-in taking place 9 a.m. Registration at the door is $35, and includes entry to the Bushplane Museum. Please make cheques payable to Paquin Productions.

Please bring a lunch, as it is not included. Spectators are welcome free of charge.
