Landfill gate fee waived this week

During the week of April 15 to 20, 2013, the gate fee at the City landfill site will be waived for loads up to 300 kg, as a public service to encourage the proper disposal of accumulated items not picked up by the City’s residential refuse collection program.

Regular charges will apply for appliances containing Freon (fridges, freezers, air conditioners, etc.) and loads over 300 kg.

The Landfill site located at 402 Fifth Line East is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Residents must show identification for access to the Landfill.

Household Special Waste Depot  opens April 18

The City of Sault Ste. Marie Household Special Waste facility located at 115 Industrial Park Crescent (turn off Great Northern Road across from Great Lakes Honda) will re-open on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

The facility will be open on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the month of April through October 26, 2013.

Leaf and yard waste pick-up starts April  22

The Leaf and Yard Waste Pick-Up program commences on April 22, 2013, and will continue to run until November 23, 2013.

Paper biodegradable leaf bags are to be used for the disposal of leaves, grass, small plants, hedge trimmings, hay, apples, pumpkins, and pine cones. Unacceptable waste material for pick-up includes trees/branches, animal waste, food/table scraps and garbage.

Residents are reminded that there is no limit to the number of bags placed out for collection and bags must not weigh more than 44 lbs (20 kg).
