Yesterday's chill was a record-breaker

According to Environment Canada, a number of historical temperature records for Nov. 22 were broken yesterday as a cold snap swept across the province.

In Sault Ste. Marie, the mercury dipped to -23.4, breaking the previous record of -18.6 set in 1989.

Other northern Ontario records set yesterday include Sudbury with -22.3 (previous record of -20.6 in 1989), North Bay with -26.6 (previous record of -18.9 in 1949), Timmins with -24.2 (previous record of -23.9 in 1956), and Kapuskasing with -27.0 (previous record of -25.6 in 1964).

SooToday meteorologist Jerry Shields tells us this weekend will be warmer with a daytime high of around plus 3 today and plus 4 Saturday. It should remain above zero on Sunday as well.
