Workweek Outlook: Cold and rain and snow

Could be as much as 10 centimetres in Searchmont

Mid-October daytime maximums are usually around 11-12C. Even the warmest days of this coming workweek will fall a couple of degrees shy of that mark.  With the cool air will come gusty winds off of Lake Superior that will contribute to an ongoing risk of lake enhanced cold rain and snow events early this week. The long-range outlook out to 10-days shows no relief to the cool weather.

On Monday we will see a mix of rain and snow as daytime highs climb to 4C. North of the city there will be more snow than rain with some accumulation likely. Some areas at higher elevations, like Searchmont, could see over 10 centimetres of snow by Tuesday morning. Gusty west the northwest winds will develop in the afternoon.

Tuesday will bring showers during the day that will transition to snow by midnight. Temperatures will climb to near 8°C with gusty west winds that will become northwesterly in the evening as the rain transitions to snow.

Frigid air arrives on Wednesday with daytime highs only climbing a few degrees above the freezing mark. Gusty northwest winds could bring potentially strong snowsqualls off of Lake Superior with a good chance for accumulation.

Sunshine will finally return on Thursday with temperatures moving closer to 10°C.  Friday holds on to these slightly warmer temperatures but brings rain later in the day.  Very cold air moves back in for the weekend.
