The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has organized another auto dealership in the Steel City. In a Ministry of Labour authorized vote, workers at Northside Toyota voted to join the IAM. The IAM now represents workers at six auto dealerships in Sault Ste. Marie.

“The workers here saw how we represented their counterparts at the other dealerships,” explained IAM Grand Lodge Representative Lou Pagrach. “We’re growing our footprint in Sault Ste. Marie and we want to add more dealerships. These workers want fairness in the workplace, better wages, better benefits and a pension and they came to us to obtain those goals.”

The newest members of IAM Local Lodge 2332 include service technicians, apprentices and parts department personnel. The IAM also represents workers at Prouse Motors, Superior Dodge, Maitland Lewis, Highland Ford and Superior Nissan.

The IAM represents more than 1550 workers in automotive dealerships on Vancouver Island as well as in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
