Sault Ste. Marie City Council is expected to award a $28,000 consulting contract to Kresin Engineering Corp. tonight for a northern bus transfer station at Sault College.

"As the design and contract administration for the Northern Avenue improvements project is being completed by Kresin Engineering, it would be wise to retain Kresin to provide tendering and contract administration services for this project," says Brent Lamming, the city's director of community services, in a memorandum to Mayor Provenzano and city councillors.

The long-awaited $500,000 project is part of $4 million in planned transit improvements, for which the city will pay $1.1 million.

The improvements are eligible for 73 per cent funding from a federal infrastructure program.

The city is working with Sault College on an agreement to place the transfer point on college property.

Tonight's meeting of City Council will be held by teleconference in compliance with pandemic physical distancing requirements.

In conjuction with Shaw Spotlight, SooToday will livestream the meeting starting at 4:30 p.m.
