************************* Algoma Family Services scores 97 percent - demonstrating continuous quality improvement

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - On April 15, the board of directors and staff of Algoma Family Services (AFS) will celebrate an agency milestone.

Maintaining the highest standards of quality in the delivery of children’s mental health services and administrative governance has earned AFS accreditation through Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) for an additional four years.

First accredited in 2004, AFS is committed to continuous quality improvement through evidence-based practices that reflect the most up to date clinical interventions available for families in Algoma.

“Being accredited through Children’s Mental Health Ontario validates that AFS is providing quality mental health services to children, youth and families in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District and sets standards of excellence in all areas of the organization,” states Lynn Ryan MacKenzie, executive director of Algoma Family Services. “I am extremely proud of the excellent work of our staff group. It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain accreditation.”

The CMHO accreditation process addressed the four major areas of AFS’ operations: programming, staffing, managing and governing.

For Algoma Family Services, accreditation has helped to build an ethic of continuous improvement into the organization and has strengthened the identity of the agency.

This certification not only benefits AFS but the community as well by facilitating, developing and delivering high quality and responsive mental health services for children and families in Algoma.

AFS is one of 85 accredited Children’s Mental Health Centres in Ontario.
