Woman passes baby to neighbours from second floor (4 photos)

A witness reported seeing a woman on the back entry-way roof of a Boston Avenue home with a baby around 10:30 a.m., Sunday morning.

The woman had climbed out a second-storey window onto the overhang of the back entryway and shouted for help, pleading for someone to call 911.

Not long before that, a man was heard pounding on the back door of the attached home, shouting to be let in.

Police were called and the woman passed the baby down to neighbours who held the child until a trusted caregiver arrived.

Witnesses report police arrived a few short minutes after 911 was called. 

Police were seen escorting a man from the forested area behind the building shortly after they arrived. 

The woman and child were ambulanced away from the scene before noon.

By 4 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was still on the scene apparently carrying out an investigation.
