************************* OPP charge woman for altering lottery ticket

TORONTO (March 13) - The Ontario Provincial Police have charged a woman following an investigation into an altered Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) lottery ticket.

The investigation was referred to the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau assigned to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) by the OLG as a result of a "suspicious win" of a "Cash for Life Lottery" ticket. On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, a woman attended the OLG Prize office in Toronto to claim a "Cash for Life" lottery scratch ticket valued at $675,000. The ticket was examined by the OLG and found to be suspicious.

The incident was referred to the OPP who initiated an investigation. As a result of the investigation, the OPP have charged Sharon Hunwicks, 49, of Toronto with one count of uttering a forged document. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at Old City Hall, 60 Queen Street West, Toronto on April 22, 2008. As of January 1, 2008, the AGCO has assumed the responsibility of Ontario's lottery regulator responsible for investigating insider, suspicious lottery wins and registered lottery retailers.
