Sault Ste. Marie's Entomica has won recognition for its work in the world of insects.

The Canadian Association of Science Centres (CASC) closed out its 14th annual conference in Vancouver with the CASCADE awards May 7.

John Dedes, Entomica CEO, received the “Making a Difference” Award for building on his passion for the world of insects to establish Entomica, which has become a popular local attraction for all ages.

In addition, Entomica's Science for Seniors program won a CASCADE for Best Program – Small Institution.

The Science for Seniors program has become a hit with residents of the Sault's seniors' centres.

"Having the privilege to go into Sault Ste. Marie's seniors' centres with our bugs and seeing the faces of the residents and staff light up as they were seeing these living wonders for the first time in their lives was beyond description," Dedes said April 22, at an event held to highlight the second annual Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival.

The Canadian Association of Science Centres (CASC) represents 45 Canadian science centres, museums, aquariums and planetariums.
