ALGOMA'S WATER TOWER INN

************************* Algoma's Water Tower Inn turns geo-caching into "Geo-Cash-Inn"

Outdoor travellers and enthusiasts are being challenged to explore the Great Lakes Heritage Coast from the Trailhead at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario…to uncover a geo-cache and win geo-cash.

In an outdoor game much like a wilderness treasure hunt, participants can win pots of cash up to $300 each week by using global positioning systems (GPS) coordinates or compass directions to discover specified natural and historical positions (or caches).

It's fun, educational, and rewarding – and thanks to the Inn's innovative game program dubbed Geo-Cash-INN, introduces people to the dramatic coastline areas of Lake Superior and Lake Huron, collectively christened the Great Lakes Heritage Coast.

What is Geo-caching?

Geo-caching is an adventure game for GPS users.

The broader concept is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the Internet.

GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches.

Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards.

The concept began as a fringe activity in 2000, but geo-caching has soared in popularity in recent years and has gone mainstream, attracting outdoor enthusiasts, families and corporate groups.

Algoma's Water Tower Inn, a full-facility resort hotel with ready access to the great Northern Ontario outdoors, is running its own unique version of the game through its Trailhead Program.

Participants who don't own GPS receivers can still find the way points using a compass and clues.

Between June and October, Geo-Cash-INN awards will amount to $5,000 with weekly pots of up to $300 and a grand prize at the end.

The inn has created a series of virtual and real Geo-Cache games positioned around the spectacular urban and wilderness vistas, trails and waterways of the Algoma landscape.

What is the Trailhead Program?

The Trailhead program, created by Algoma's Water Tower Inn, makes the Algoma Region of the Great Lakes Heritage Coast easier to access, friendlier to navigate and more intimate to discover.

The Trailhead program constitutes an extensive database of outdoor activity for the region, found at www.algomastrailhead.com, and is available to everyone. Guests are booked into two and three day packages with the benefit of the knowledgeable Adventure Host to help them plan daily itineraries, including the Geo-Cash-INN games.

After driving, hiking, paddling, cycling, or fishing, guests relax in thematically-appointed Trailhead rooms.

The inn itself is an exceptional venue, with courtyard falls and waterways, and pool and spa comforts. Geo-Cash-Inn runs from late June to mid October.
