************************* DAVIES, William Rhys – Died peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2009 in Ottawa in the care of his family.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eira in September 2007, and leaves behind his loving children Simon (Suzanne), Michael (Tammy) and Helen (Jim), his grandchildren Jonathan, Hannah, Sarah, Christopher, Evan, Rhiannon and Jenny, as well as Suzanne’s children, Kim, Andrea and Melanie.

He was born and raised in Penrhiwceiber, Wales.

He joined the RAF during World War II where he specialized in radar.

Following the war he studied engineering at Imperial College, London and had a fruitful career; first as a practicing civil engineer and later, when he emigrated to Canada, as a professor at Sault College where he taught for close to 20 years.

After retirement Bill enjoyed many years of travel with Eira and both of them treasured their time with friends and family.

A devoted family man and a loyal friend Bill will be remembered with love for his intelligence, love of words and ideas, and his passion.

Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 10 a.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 11 a.m.
