A new wildland fire was confirmed north of Wawa this afternoon.

Wawa 4 is burning east of Beaton Lake and Highway 631 and the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting that it is not under control at this time.

The fire is currently 0.1 of a hectare and the lone active fire in the region.

The fire hazard in the northeast region is low to moderate for much of the area except for an area southeast of Mattawa that was showing a high hazard this afternoon.
