Wildfire burns out of control in Wawa area

**************************** No new fires were reported in the Northeast Region on June 15. 

One new fire has been reported so far today. 

Sudbury 22 was reported near Lockerby Mine Road and is not yet under control at 0.1 hectares. 

There are no issues anticipated with this fire.

Other active fires in the region include Cochrane 7, in Polar Bear Provincial Park, north of Peawanuck which is under control at 1.0 hectare.

Cochrane 8 was reported west of Attawapiskat and is not under control at 4.0 hectares. 

Wawa 12, west of Kern Lake and is not under control at 60 hectares.

Eight fire ranger crews are currently working on suppressing the fire.

The hazard in the Northeast Region is high to extreme and will continue to remain that way into next week.

On June 16 demobilization plans call for 101 Ontario fire staff to return from Alberta leaving 273 personnel there who will also be returning soon with no replacements scheduled for dispatch by Ontario.

Since May 16, almost 8,000 person days of assistance have been provided to Alberta.

Support to Northwest Territories continues with two air attack officers dispatched from Ontario and one returning.

Keep your fire small, build it on bare rock or dirt, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site. Drown! Stir! Drown!
