OPP NEWS RELEASE

************************** GARDEN RIVER, ON - Two southern Ontario men should have picked a better place than Garden River to have a crash with a stolen vehicle.

At about 11:15 a.m. this morning witnesses advised that a westbound black Honda car crossed the centerline of Highway 17, across the eastbound lane and into the ditch on the Garden River First Nation.

The car flew out of the ditch and the driver drove down a side road in Garden River.

Witnesses of the crash called police and followed the car a short distance until it went into a driveway.

The suspects realized they were being followed and drove further down the side road and then fled the vehicle.

Residents of Garden River saw some of suspect's activities and were able to keep observation on the two until police arrived.

Officers from the Anishinabek Police, OPP and Batchewana First Nation Police were on the scene quickly and contained the area.

The service of a police dog from the Sault Ste Marie City Police [not exactly as illustrated] was requested and attended the area.

The two suspects were tracked down by the police dog a short distance away from the area.

Two adult males, both aged 24, were taken into custody.

The car was reported as stolen from southern Ontario.

It appears that the driver of the stolen car fell asleep at the wheel causing the crash.

Both men are being held in custody pending a WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) court appearance tomorrow morning.
