What's open, what's closed on the Family Day holiday

Landfill, libraries, Civic Centre will be closed

A number of City of Sault Ste. Marie facilities will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21 to observe the Family Day holiday, including the City Landfill site, the Civic Centre and all public library branches, states a news release issued today.

In addition to these closures, there will be no garbage and recycling pick-up on Monday and collection will be one day late for the rest of the week.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie would like to advise residents of the following schedule changes for Family Day operations:

The following facilities will be closed Monday, Feb. 21:
    •    Cemetery office
    •    City Landfill  
    •    City operated arenas – McMeeken and GFL Memorial Gardens
    •    Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site
    •    Fire Services Administrative offices
    •    GFL Memorial Gardens administrative office and box office
    •    Public libraries – James L. McIntyre Centennial and the North Branch Library
    •    Public Works and Engineering office – 128 Sackville Rd. For 24-hour emergency service requests, call 705-759-5201.
    •    Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre  
    •    Sault Transit main office  
    •    Bay Street Active Living Centre 55+ and the Northern Community Centre

Garbage and Recycling Collection
There is no garbage or recycling pickup on Monday, Feb. 21. Both garbage and recycling will be one day late for the remainder of the week.

A reminder that the Landfill site located at 402 Fifth Line East is closed on Saturdays for the season.

The following facilities and services will operate on Monday, Feb. 21:
    •    Outdoor rinks – Art Jennings Oval and Clergue Park Skating Trail, toboggan hills and trails are open weather permitting. Outdoor skating change rooms are now open. Users of any outdoor city site should plan accordingly and follow signage as directed. Masking is recommended at all times even outdoors.
    •    John Rhodes Pool – Parent and child and lane swim at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Public swim at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
    •    John Rhodes Arena #2 – Public skating 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.  
    •    Transit Service – On Monday, Feb. 21, the hourly Saturday service schedule will be followed with the first bus departing the terminal at 6:15 a.m. and last bus departing the terminal at 11:15 p.m. Parabus service will run as usual. No Community Bus. For transit information, call 705-759-5438.
