What we heard this morning about the downtown plaza

Permanent street and lane closures needed
Bingham Street
Bingham Street runs directly through what will now be the downtown plaza

Sault Ste. Marie City Council will be asked next week to permanently close Bingham Street to allow construction of the downtown plaza.

Bingham (known to some as McDougald Street) will be officially stopped up and closed as part of bylaws affecting streets and lanes needed for the $8.6 million project.

Construction work on the site behind the Bay Street Tim Horton's will be done by Avery Construction.

It's expected to take 37 weeks, ending in January 2023.

Next week's City Council meeting will be live-streamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
