Manitoulin OPP kept busy with accidents On Monday the 14th February Manitoulin OPP officers were busy responded to motor vehicle collisions all across the island.

Manitoulin Island had experienced snow, freezing rain and then rain, which caused area highways to become extremely slippery with slush.

A total of seven collisions occurred in a span of just a few hours reported Constable Allan Boyd Community Services Officer with the Manitoulin OPP.

Five collisions occurred on Highway 540 from as far west as Gordon Township to Little Current area.

This included vehicles sliding into the ditch and rolling over.

On Highway 6, two collisions occurred, one involving an emergency ambulance vehicle.

Other than being shaken up the drivers escaped serious injury reported Constable Boyd.

"Drivers are reminded that in extreme weather conditions such as we experienced that day drivers must adjust their driving standards to those conditions."

"Speed is and will always be a contributing factor in these collisions. I review most motor vehicle collision reports and officers investigating the collisions always state the cause of the collision is speed too fast," Constable Boyd stated.
