What are you most thankful for?

Thankful for life itself; also, most prefer turkey over ham for Thanksgiving dinner

A Thanksgiving dinner along with all the good things in life are great to have, but as Saultites got ready to celebrate the annual holiday, SooToday took to the streets over the weekend and asked ‘what is it you’re most thankful for?’

The answer, for many we spoke to, is life itself.

“I’m thankful every day to the Lord for the measure of strength I have to get up and do whatever I need to do for the day, and for a good wife who cares for me, I’m going to be 92 the day before Christmas,” said Alvin Burmaster.

“I’m thankful every day for being alive,” said Gerald Guzzo.

“I nearly died three years ago and I changed my whole way of thinking on life, I learned to appreciate the simple things in life, I thank God for it,” Guzzo said.

“I’m thankful for my child’s health,” said Jessie Scoville.

“I’m thankful for family and that we can all get together and enjoy the holiday,” said Matteo Mancuso.

“I’m thankful for everything, really…for my son who’s been an absolute blessing to me, the lovely family I have, my friends, my mixed martial arts teammates, it’s been nice,” said Daylan Dorricott.

“I’m thankful for my family and my health and a democratic country like this,” said Chris Spina.

“I’m thankful we’re free…we can get to go to school and you can achieve your goals if you’re willing to study hard enough and work hard enough, and we don’t have to worry about the police knocking on our doors like they do in some countries,” said Linda Berard.

Indeed, a lot to be thankful for.

On a less serious note, we also asked Saultites what they prefer for Thanksgiving dinner.

Turkey, or ham?

“Turkey, and it’s best if you have a homegrown turkey,” said  Vaughan Alexander.

“Ham all day, put syrup on it, it’s beautiful,” said Jordan Chiarello.

“Turkey’s only good if you get the dark meat, and that’s the first thing gone,” Chiarello said.

“Turkey, dark meat for sure, I’m not a big pork fan,” said Nathaniel Kucher.

“Turkey, it’s way more tasty and you only get turkey a couple of times a year…you can buy ham anytime, but turkey’s for special occasions,” said Jesse King.

“Turkey for sure, turkey’s more classic for Thanksgiving,” said Katie Babcock.

“That’s a tough question, because I have two Thanksgivings,” said Ryan Seabrook.

“The Welsh side of my family gets together and we have ham, then I go down to Thessalon and we go to the farm and we have turkey, so I’m spoiled, I get both, I love both in equal amounts because I love both sides of my family in equal amounts,” Seabrook said.

Happy Thanksgiving!
