Weekend Outlook: Even more snow on the way

If you are a fan of the snow squalls then don't fret - they should return before the weekend is done

The last couple days have brought somewhere between 51-65cm of snow across the Sault region thanks to an impressive 36 hours of snowsquall activity.

The overall weather pattern has changed to bring the squalls to an end, and now we shift gears for the next 36 hours as a winter storm crosses the southern Great Lakes. If you are a fan of the snowsqualls then don't fret - they should return before the weekend is done.

Friday should see some sunshine poke through the clouds as the wind subsides and temperatures climb above -10C for the first time in a few days. Clouds do return later this afternoon, and then widespread snow arrives this evening well after sunset.

A large winter storm will hit Southern Ontario later tonight and tomorrow with the Sault region only catching the northern edge of that system. By Saturday afternoon we should see another 10-15cm of snow on the ground. Winds swing around to the north late Saturday to usher in much colder air heading into Sunday.

Sunday will see daytime highs below -10C again with windchill values back to the minus twenties. The cold air will start the snowquall machine back up Sunday, but the Sault might get off easy.

Right now the winds appear to be northerly, which would keep the squall-lines west of the city, but if the forecasted winds do become even a little more northwesterly then the city could see the squalls move in. Right now the forecast is for 2-3cm of snow Sunday but if that wind shifts it could be higher.

Warmer weather moves in next week with temperatures taking a shot at the freezing mark by Wednesday.
