Weekend Outlook: A pesky cold front interrupts a run of sun and heat

Over the last several days, we've enjoyed sunshine and temperatures about five degrees warmer than normal thanks to a record-breaking area of high-pressure in the Arctic. This spring-like weather would have continued right through this weekend except for a weak little cold front that decided to run across the region on Saturday. The front will be fast-moving, and the precipitation it brings will only last a few hours, but temperatures will suffer and fall back below normal – just for one day, though, as better weather returns on Sunday.

Friday should be the warmest day of the week as temperatures climb above +10°C for everyone as winds weaken to light and variable.

Skies cloud over Saturday morning with light rain likely before noon. Daytime highs will occur around the same time that the rain starts and reach +3°C before falling for the rest of the day. The light rain should change over to wet flurries quickly as temperatures approach the freezing mark. Gusty northwest winds arrive in the afternoon to help bring the cooler air into the region, and the snow should end in the afternoon.

Sunday will be mostly sunny, but the northwest wind will hang on. This means that the city and locations near Lake Superior will see daytime highs just under +8°C while inland areas to the east could reach +10°C.

Cloud cover returns to start next week, but the temperatures remain well above freezing.
