Weekend Outlook: A March this dry is not unprecedented

High pressure remains locked over the Sault region this weekend, and so we will continue with sunny skies

With well under 10mm of precipitation this month I figured this had to be the driest March in recorded history for the Sault. So I went back through the record archives and was surprised to find out that in 2010 it was even drier! In that year only 5mm fell all month (we already have 6mm this month).

This big difference from this year to 2010 to this year is the temperatures. We are going through a cool to seasonal sunny month, but back in 2010, it was much warmer. Daytime highs were climbing to near +10°C and sometimes to the teens with no snow on the ground.

High pressure remains locked over the Sault region this weekend, and so we will continue with sunny skies. Temperatures will continue to climb above freezing during the day and fall back down below freezing overnight. It'll be next week before we see a change in this pattern and our first chance of rain in quite a while.

Friday will be a sunny day with highs near 4°C. Windchills shouldn't be an issue with light northerly winds. The sunshine continues into this weekend with temperatures several degrees above the freezing mark each day. An easterly wind will build each day to make it feel cooler than it is.

Even warmer air moves in early next week with rain arrives likely on Tuesday.
