FOREST FIRE UPDATE

************************* East Fire Region situation update

Wednesday July 4, 2007

HIGHLIGHTS:

• 4 new; 9 active fires

• 244 fires; 2,841.8 hectares to date since April 1

DETAILS:

There have been four new fires in the last 24 hours:

- Parry Sound 21 – a 0.2 hectare fire that is under control, east of Highway 69 near Round Lake Provincial Park.

- Parry Sound 22 – a 0.2 hectare fire that is under control, east of Parry Sound near Horn Lake.

- North Bay 24 – a 0.8 hectare fire that is under control, east of Mitchell Lake, north of North Bay.

- Bancroft 9 – a 0.1 hectare fire that is being held in the Bancroft district.

Active fires include:

- Cochrane 20 & 22 – lightning fires west of Fort Albany Algonquin Park 2 – 3.8 hectare fire that is under control.

- Sudbury 65 – a 0.1 hectare fire that is under control.

- Sudbury 66 – a 1.5 hectare fire that is under control.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations.

Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
