There were three new fires reported in the East Fire Region on June 17 as of 6 p.m.

Cochrane 8 is not yet under control and Cochrane 9 is being observed.

Timmins 9 is 7.5 hectares in size and is not yet under control.

Aside from the new fires reported, there are also four active fires - one each in Chapleau district, Cochrane district, Timmins district and Wawa district.

The forest fire hazard in the East Fire Region is high north of the French River and low to moderate in southern Ontario.

Always make sure you follow safe burning guidelines as set out under the Forest Fires Prevention Act and if you live within a municipality, please contact your local municipal office or fire department before burning.
