We took a major clobbering this morning (11 photos)

The Sault continues to dig out from a nasty winter storm that closed schools, halted mail delivery and disappointed Star Wars fans

Sault Ste. Marie was digging itself out Thursday morning from one of the worst snowstorms it’s experienced in a long time.

Temperatures plummeted, snow fell and winds howled Wednesday evening.

As a result, many businesses and services were closed Thursday morning, including schools, banks, Canada Post and shopping centres such as Station Mall.

Civic Centre announced it would be closed after 12 p.m.

Other places of business, such as grocery stores, were open as snow plows cleared parking lots.

City crews had cleared only main roads, with the intention of getting around to secondary roads as soon as possible.
